FEVERFEW

common names: planting: perennial traditional uses: toothache, stomach ache, psoriasis, rheumatism, menstrual cramps, insect bites, asthma, and the prevention/alleviation of migraine headaches. parts used: leaves, stems & flowers preparations: capsules, tablets, and tea taste: precautions: Do not use if pregnant or breast feeding; watch for mouth & skin sores or other signs of allergic reaction; discontinue use gradually to reduce symptoms of post-feverfew syndrome. side effects: Allergic reaction; mouth & skiin sores; moderate to severe pain with stiff joints & muscles after abrupt discontinuation of the herb after prolonged use. drug interactions: possible interaction with "blood thinners" such as coumadin. scientific studies: Several studies on the treatment of migraines with feverfew have shown the herb to be effective.
